As much as we would like to coast through life without any drama, without being knocked down or stripped back to raw nerves, life is not that simple. I have been lucky enough to witness what some might call miracles, what others might say is just ‘dealing with what life throws at you’. I come from a line of mothers, sisters and wonder women that have battled with cancer, some have lost and some have won. I have witnessed friends deal with unimaginable heartache, yet come out fighting and I have experienced soul mates struggling against demons they cannot see, that cannot be defined or diagnosed.
‘A mountain can’t rise without an earthquake.’
I don’t know where I heard or read this quote and to be honest, I don’t think it is geologically accurate, however it struck home. I look back at the men, women, friends and family that I know have been through relative hell and back and I see that they are stronger as a result, different as a consequence and better for the battle.
It gives me hope.
Take a minute. Think of those that you know that have suffered. It may be down to others actions, it may be down to forces of nature, ill health, mental or emotional demons. They have suffered, or maybe they are still struggling but they are still fighting, they are still standing their ground. Take strength. Twist the cliche ‘if I can do it, you can’ – ‘if they can do it, you can’. Use their strength, their hope and let it build you. Remember, ‘this too shall pass’ and you will look back and one day, whether it be hours, days, years from now – you will realise you are stronger, wiser, better for the trials you have been put through. You got this.
